AKRON METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY Job Title: Accounting Coordinator Reports to: Controller Department: Finance Date: December 2024 FLSA Status: Non-exempt New Hire Base Rate 10 Years 20 Years $23.80 $24.93 $26.25 $26.97 General Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Accounting Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Finance Department by performing accounting functions including recording financial transactions, assisting with budgeting and reporting, booking journal entries, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, and assisting with the control and maintenance of fixed assets. All activities must support AMHA's mission, strategic goals and objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. 30% Accurately post all monthly fixed asset transactions. This responsibility includes adding, assigning ID tags, deleting and transferring assets in the fixed asset module. Creates and posts depreciation. Follows up on missing assets and promptly resolves any anomalies on a timely basis. Researches found assets and posts appropriately. Communicates with supervisor routinely regarding missing and found inventory process, including processing of inventory worksheets, ensuring that managers provide up-to-date inventory information, inputting inventory data, and resolving all inventory discrepancies. Notifies appropriate management of specific inventory anomalies, and conducts field work to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies as well as spot check completed inventories. Maintains fixed asset and depreciation records and reports. 30% Accurately records financial transactions into accounting software, maintaining the general ledger. Verifies data for accuracy. This responsibility includes accurately recording all manual general ledger entries, preparing, developing and recording monthly journal entries, balancing a variety of accounting modules and balancing various accounts after posting. Maintains bank records and general ledger reports. Prepares and formats spreadsheets and reports (such as intercompany balances, fire damages and monthly rent). Works closely with other members of the Finance Department to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and reported. 20% Records cash receipts from the federal government and various other sources into the general ledger. Reviews and reconciles cash receipts to bank statements, including identifying and resolving discrepancies while ensuring all transactions are posted timely, accurately and properly documented. 10% Downloads budget reports, prepares budget request forms for the annual operating budget. Inputs budget into accounting software, verifies data to ensure completeness and accuracy. 4% Assists external auditors with document collection and review for the preliminary and annual audit, including updating and providing accurate reports as necessary. Explains and provides back-up documents as requested. 2% Develops and updates standard fixed asset accounting procedures. Ensures fixed asset user manual is up to date and disseminated to managers. Conducts training of end users to ensure that fixed asset procedures are followed consistently, such as the proper documentation of new, transferred or scrapped inventory items, proper methods for taking inventory, and end-user's responsibility to safeguard AMHA assets. 2% Collaborates with other departments to gather financial information and any necessary supporting documentation needed to support financial transactions to ensure compliance with internal and external controls. 2% Performs other duties as assigned.
