CHILDRENS HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER OF AKRON IRB Specialist - Research in Akron, Ohio

Full Time, 40 Hours/Week Day Shift, 8am - 4:30pm Hybrid (2-3 days/week) Summary: The IRB Specialist is responsible for supporting the human subject protection program and the Institutional Review Board. Responsibilities: 1. Analyzes protocols and records to ensure completeness and compliance with appropriate federal, and state regulations as well as institutional and IRB policies related to human subjects protection, and to determine the appropriate level of IRB review. 2. Contributes to components of the review process; attends and may assist with IRB meetings. 3. Assists with maintenance of the IRB record by reviewing system reports to ensure studies are in compliance. 4. Serves as resource to IRB members, investigators, staff, human subjects, and hospital leaders on the ethical conduct of research and safeguarding the rights and welfare of subjects. 5. Maintains information from independent investigators showing their documented commitments to the institution's human subject's protection requirements. 6. Attends conferences and programs for continuing personal and professional growth in the practice of human research protection programs. 7. Assists with revisions and implementation of IRB forms, policies, standard operating procedures and educational materials. 8. Other duties as required. Other information: Technical Expertise: 1. Knowledge of the foundations and concepts of IRB administrative functions is preferred. 2. Knowledge of current international ethical codes, state and federal regulations, and guidance governing such regulations 3. related to the protection of human subjects involved in research is required. 4. Ability to interact and communicate, both orally and in writing, with individuals from all levels within the organization is required. 5. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] is required. 6. Must have strong analytical, problem solving, time management and multi-tasking skills. 7. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Education and Experience: 1. Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. 2. Certification: Research Certification is strongly encouraged. 3. Years of relevant experience: 2 to 3 years is preferred. 4. Years of experience supervising: None required.
