About the Opportunity: The experienced federal regulatory attorney will work on PJM and Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) tariffs and matters in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and will support state regulatory attorneys on combined federal-state matters. The attorney will be responsible for advising internal clients about federal wholesale power markets and transmission policy. Power markets work will include RTO power markets and generation resource adequacy, and related issues within the context of the PJM and other RTO market structures and rules. The attorney also may support FirstEnergy's transmission investment business plan, as well as monitoring and participating in PJM stakeholder processes. The attorney will have responsibility for advising FirstEnergy executives and business units regarding legal issues that impact the business and will also work as part of a team on complex regulatory litigation. The attorney will work extensively with outside counsel, and will be responsible for managing work of outside counsel. Summary of Responsibilities: * Handle legal matters in the areas of federal public utility regulatory law, with special emphasis on PJM and other RTO markets and transmission matters before FERC and other tribunals. * Work collaboratively with internal and external counsel, consultants, business unit staff, and other industry stakeholders, on project assignments. * Perform legal research, with special emphasis on Administrative Procedure Act regulatory agency rules and adjudications, with follow-on appellate litigation. * Draft and review legal and other documents. * Advise internal business clients and other FirstEnergy counsel on matters within the attorney's responsibility. * Provide legal, strategic and business advice. Qualifications: * J.D. from an accredited university * Member in good standing of at least one state bar * 7-10 years of litigation experience, FERC experience preferred; experience with state utility regulatory work is a plus * Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to understand new areas Benefits, Compensation & Workforce Diversity At FirstEnergy, employees are key to our success.
