Description

As a Behavior Specialist, you will work with youth, families, and all team members in developing behavior plans and individualized crisis management plans. You will provide these services in the RTF, family homes, and community. You will report to the Residential Program Manager and will work onsite with community-based travel required. Certification in behavioral assessment preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in family planning and Child and Family Team meetings for each family as part of their RTF services.

  • Create behavioral, crisis, and coping plans for each youth in the RTF. These plans include self-care plans, home crisis plans, coping plans, and ICSPs. Review and revise individual safety plans after every significant incident and at every treatment review.

  • Monitor, create and report on incident and behavioral trend data to assist in assessing improvement or needs of youth, and family. Report monthly at team meetings or ad hoc as needed on youth.

  • Offer ongoing mentoring and coaching to direct care staff in trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.

  • Use ARC, and clinical knowledge to promote recovery-oriented, strength-based approaches in daily therapeutic activities.

  • Review ICSP and complete staff Debrief in accordance with restraint policy.

  • Work with families to implement behavior strategies in home and community settings to facilitate return to home and community.

  • Collaborate with school staff on individualized behavior plans. Attend school meetings as assigned.

Requirements and Education:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a human services or related field with three years of experience working with children with serious emotional disturbance with mental health diagnosis.

  • Certification in behavioral assessment preferred.

  • Specialized training/expertise in the area of trauma-informed care, behavior planning, and crisis prevention is preferred.

  • Must have a valid NYS driver's license.

  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
