JOB SUMMARY:

Performs rescues and administers emergency care. Ensures patron safety by observation and enforcement of safety rules in water and in the Aquatics Facility. Maintains enthusiasm and excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for ensuring patron safety by enforcing pool rules and policies;
• Performs water rescues from all stations; including deep and shallow water;
• Administers CPR/AED, emergency care and first aid as needed;
• Informs supervisor of unsafe conditions and completes incident reports regularly as needed;
• Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs and informs customers of pool rules;
• Performs required administrative duties such as answering telephones and collecting fees;
• Performs general maintenance of Aquatic Facility; including brushing and vacuuming pools, cleaning of pool area, restrooms, office, decks and parking lot; performs miscellaneous duties such as arranging lane lines for classes; performs minor maintenance items as needed, reporting all issues to management.
• Oversees completion of daily chore lists, daily inspection safety checklist, and end of day checklist, submitting all completed lists to management;
• Monitors pool water chemistry throughout the day by testing water samples and adjusting pool chemicals as needed to maintain state standards; recording all chemical test results both in the pumphouse log book and in the pool office log book.
• Observes and maintains proper chemical safety standards at all points of use and testing, including the pumphouse and chemical closets/storage.
• Guide and assist lifeguards in following required certifications, best practices, and policies for safety;
• Assists management in overseeing and enforcing department policies at all times;
• Prepares lifeguard rotations daily; assigns chore lists and prepares daily environmental condition report; prepares topics for pre-shift briefing;
• Assist in the preparation of, and implementation of, mandatory in-service meetings, staff meetings and trainings, maintaining proper and complete documentation of guard participation, training, and skill mastery.
• Conduct and oversee patron swim tests, determine results, and accurately communicate swim level proficiency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required to have one (1) season of experience as a Lifeguard. Requires the ability to read and understand written instructions.

Must be able to give and understand oral instructions and communicate effectively.

Required to possess the American Red Cross Lifeguard / First Aid / CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer. Current Blood Borne Pathogens certification.

**Required to obtain the lifeguard management within thirty (30) days of hire. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification optional.

Special Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to lift and/or carry items that weigh 10 to 15 lbs, occasionally exerting 20 - 50 lbs;

May be required to push, pull or drag up to 150 lbs while performing rescues;

Required to sit, stand, reach, twist and walk to perform duties;

Required to climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop and bend to administer CPR and/or First Aid;

Work is indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures (heat/ cold) and inclement weather, and may include odors and loud noises routinely encountered at large aquatic facilities. Seasonal Training Requirements:

Must maintain Red Cross Certification standards. Swimming 300 yards of any combination of freestyle, breaststroke and/or sidestroke two times per week while on duty. Practice swimming with a rescue tube required for 100 of the 300 yards. Must perform at least one (1) practice rescue and participate during in-ser ice training each week to improve skills throughout the season.
