NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COUNCIL Transportation Planner I Land Use and Mobility Options Arlington, Texas

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Transportation Planner in the Land Use and Mobility Options program within the Metropolitan Planning Organization. This position will support projects related to the interface between land use and transportation, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and the implementation of multimodal transportation infrastructure.
This position is a unique opportunity to experience diverse, real-world applications of integrated transportation and land-use planning and funding. The successful candidate will assist in activities related to infrastructure and land-use planning, infrastructure project funding, plan development, context-sensitive design, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and analysis in a fast-paced office environment with multiple priorities. Specific project areas may include: developing guidance documents and recommendations related to a wide range of transportation/land-use planning topics; assisting with the evaluation of infrastructure projects submitted for funding; facilitating educational opportunities by providing tools and outreach for local governments; developing plans including multimodal roadway corridor plans and downtown plans using context-sensitive design principles; and assisting with projects that advance unique environmental and transportation solutions.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting with the development, and review of planning and infrastructure projects, including data collection and analysis related to land use, demographics, market conditions, and multimodal transportation access
- Supporting the coordination with city governments, transit agencies, developers, nonprofits, consultants, stakeholders, and the public on transportation projects to schedule project related meetings and drafting for supervisor review, meeting materials and summaries
- Drafting for supervisor review, email communication, correspondence, technical reports, and other documents
- Drafting presentations for supervisor review, with the opportunity to deliver presentations to staff and committee members
- Working with supervisor to develop detailed maps, graphics, and spatial analysis utilizing Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS) and visualization tools
- Drafting for supervisor review grant documents and reports
Required Skills
- Good communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas
- Good critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in analytical, quantitative methods (urban/transportation planning, economic development, public administration, etc.)
- One year or less of work-related experience
Starting Salary Range
Minimum of $47,618.00 - $57,141.60 annually

NCTCOG also serves as a designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration funds.
