Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Coordinator of Health Occupations in Auburn, New York

QUALIFICATIONS: Current NYS - RN Licensure with BSN or MSN in education - Possess or be eligible for New York State Certification in Practical Nursing. Successful teaching experience in nursing. Knowledge of and experience in Health Occupations and one year experience in Home Care nursing and Nursing Home care. REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES: This staff position is directly responsible to the Director of Career & Technical Education based upon duties and assigned responsibilities pertaining to the High School Health Occupations Programs. This staff position is directly responsible to Director of Adult Education based upon duties and assigned responsibilities related to Adult Education. WORK YEAR: Twelve-month employment POSITION OBJECTIVES: The Coordinator of Health Occupations provides the coordination, supervision, and development of secondary and adult health occupations educational programs. This includes the secondary Health Related Occupations and adult Home Health Aide, Nursing Assistant, and Practical Nurse Programs. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff Relations1. Responsible for the recruitment and employment recommendations of the teaching and clinical nursing faculty.2. Interview and recommend applicants for staff and substitute positions.3. Supervise and evaluate classroom teaching and clinical supervision of all healthcare staff members.4. Promote staff development through in-service education, encouragement to attend local and regional meetings, and support for continuance of educational degree requirements.5. Schedule and preside over Nursing Faculty Meetings.6. Cooperate with faculty members on campus to sustain and promote the mission of Vocational Education.7. Assist Special Education Department with recruiting nursing staff for direct student support and school nursing office. Community Relations1. Act as a liaison to community agencies.2. Participate in parent and community activities related to the student population.3. Sustain and organize the Health Occupations Consultant Committee to meet twice yearly.4. Promote awareness of available health occupation programs in cooperating school districts and the community at large.5. Maintain communications with members of the Health Professions. Management1. Coordinate and supervise the daily operations for all of the health occupation programs.2. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs making recommendations for change as needed.3. Review a candidate in file for the nursing program prior to interviewing. File to be directed from the coordinator to the Admission Committee for review.4. Communicate to school personnel new developments in health care, education, and legislature that are applicable.5. Maintain open communications with NY State Education Department and Office of the Professions regarding program changes and development.6. Prepare for review and re-certification of all the Health-related programs within the allotted time framework.7. Coordinate the implementation of the regulations of the state agencies; i.e., Department of Social Services, Department of Health, Office of the Professions Professional Education Program Review.8. Coordinate the nursing classroom, laboratory, and simulation usage and assignment to meet the needs of all programs.9. Prepare and submit the budget for the Health Occupations Programs.10. Work within the budget to meet programmatic needs.11. Maintain open communications with immediate supervisors. Programmatic1. Coordinate the development, revision, and implementation of the curriculum. Curriculum responsibilities are with the faculty, the Coordinator ensures accuracy and completion.2. Develop and monitor program schedules for classroom and clinical experiences.3. Coordinate clinical rotations for students cooperating with health care agencies.4. Review and revise contracts annually that relate to student experience in each of the clinical agencies.5. Monitor students’ progress through faculty feedback and individual student conferences.6. Promote student participation in professional organizations and student governance.7. Develop and supervise the evaluation process used to determine the effectiveness of the faculty and the program.8. Develop and maintain a Systematic Evaluation of the Program.9. Develop and revise informational brochures re: Health Occupations at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES and the Center for Learning.10. Complete Form 2PG with the names of the Graduates and the required information upon PN program completion.11. Work with the Office of the Professions Professional Education Program Review to assist PN students in gaining licensure.12. Act as school liaison on the Health Commerce system, ensuring required C-O BOCES staff have appropriate access to the Healthcare registry, and NYSIIS.13. Assist Early Childhood Educ Program to meet vaccination health requirements of students.14. Assist New Visions Program to meet vaccination health requirements of students. Personal1. Act as a positive role model for faculty and students.2. Attend and participate in professional workshops and conferences.3. Attend and participate in school committees.4. Provide emergency care and treatment for individuals sustaining an injury or accident while on campus.5. Perform other duties and assignments as designated by the Director of Career & Technical Education, Director of Adult Education and Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs.

Minimum Salary: 80,000 Maximum Salary: 90000 Salary Unit: Yearly
