Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Database Administrator - TGA Auburn, Washington

JOB SUMMARY

With a typical starting wage between $110k - $120k per year the Database Administrator will oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of database systems to ensure data integrity, performance, and security. This role will support the IT infrastructure by managing database-related tasks, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring data accessibility for key applications. The Database Administrator will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address database needs and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. They will implement disaster recovery plans, monitor system performance, and provide technical expertise for database design and development. This position will play a critical role in optimizing database architecture and implementing data protection policies.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, update, or create business intelligence tools, dashboards, systems, or methods.

  • Provide timely flow of business intelligence information to users.

  • Design and implement data-sourced applications for dashboards or other tools.

  • Develop SQL queries for reporting and analysis.

  • Install, configure, and upgrade database systems and applications.

  • Monitor database performance to ensure optimal system functionality.

  • Manage user access, roles, and permissions for secure database use.

  • Implement and maintain robust database and recovery processes.

  • Plan and execute database migrations with minimal downtime.

  • Collaborate with development teams to design efficient database architectures.

  • Conduct regular audits to identify and resolve potential vulnerabilities.

  • Install patches/upgrades and document system changes.

  • Ensure data governance policies and procedures for agency data/databases are developed, implemented, and maintained.

  • Manage vector databases to support advanced AI model functionality and integration.

  • Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in database administration, design and management.

    OR

  • Seven (7) years of relevant database administration, design, and management experience in lieu of a degree would satisfy all requirements.

    Preferred:

  • Experience working in a Regulatory Gaming Environment.

  • Experience leadingdatabase migrations, performance tuning, and optimizationwithin aMicrosoft environment.

    Special Requirements: Incumbents must be able to pass a background check; meet the criteria for a gaming license and pass a pre-employment drug test.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Skilled In:

  • SQL and database languages.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving database issues.

  • Designing efficient database architectures.

  • Monitoring and optimizing database performance.

  • Microsoft SQL Server, .NET framework, ETL tools, and XML.

  • Object-oriented programming concepts.

    Knowledge of:

  • Relational database management systems (RDBMS).

  • Database backup and recovery techniques.

  • Cloud-based database technologies.

  • Data modeling and schema design principles.

  • Disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

  • Database security threats and mitigations.

  • Regulatory requirements like GDPR or HIPAA.

  • Vector databases and their application in supporting AI models.

    Ability to:

  • Analyze and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.

  • Be detail oriented to focus on multiple database projects simultaneously.

  • Manage database security protocols effectively.

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.

  • Adapt to rapidly changing technological environments.

  • Document database processes and updates comprehensively.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance in all database operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Database Administrator role requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers is necessary for typing, configuring hardware, and managing software systems. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required when handling equipment such as servers or backup systems. Employee may be briefly exposed to 2ndhand smoke. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate. The position may involve occasional standing, walking, and bending while accessing physical server environments. Candidates should have strong vision, including the ability to adjust focus for reading small text on screens. This role may require availability outside regular hours to resolve critical database issues or perform maintenance.
