Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and inspection of fire alarm systems per NFPA and local code standards, noting existing and potential deficiencies.

  • Functionally test Initiating Devices, Notification Appliances, and all other peripherals and system components.

  • Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers for accurate and efficient quoting of recommended repairs.

  • Perform under supervision pre-testing and final inspections for assigned projects.

  • Determine materials needed for repairs and order them.

  • Perform all duties required to successfully complete projects within estimate and according to specifications.

  • Respond to service requests, diagnose system malfunctions of fire alarms and adjust, repair or replace equipment as needed to bring into compliance.

  • Perform under supervision installation of low voltage systems.

  • Perform under supervision PITCO activities.

  • Read blueprints and drawing

  • May require some overtime hours at night, on weekends, and at a moment’s notice for emergency calls.

  • Must be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, work assignments, and other interruptions that may impact pre-established courses of action for completing or progressing with projects and assignments.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or GED with at least 4 years of experience.

  • Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.

  • Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.

  • Work at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.

  • Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

  • Must be able to achieve and maintain security clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills including, researching online, and system manuals to resolve problems

  • Ability to operate various types of test equipment including audibility and intelligibility test equipment.

  • Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail

  • Exceptional communication skills with customers, other field personnel, office staff and sub-contractors.

  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
