This job contributes to Starbucks success by operating and maintaining primary and secondary product packaging equipment in the manufacturing plant environment, ensuring that products meet delivery and quality requirements. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

As a machine operator l, you will:

  • Inspect, operate, and maintain primary and secondary automated production equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Recognize and troubleshoot typical equipment or systems issues using established solutions.

  • Demonstrate intermediate knowledge and skills relevant to operating automated production equipment.

  • Calibrate and validate quality testing equipment; performs all testing procedures according to established specifications.

  • Perform visual inspections of finished products; identify quality problems and recommend solutions.

  • Monitor and document package quality using analytical tools; participate in out of specification and failure investigations.

  • Record operational and production data.

  • May train new machine techs or operators on proper operational procedures.

  • Inform appropriate manufacturing partners and supervisor of machine performance irregularities to minimize the impact of production downtime.

  • Minimize production scrap, including materials and coffee product.

  • Collaborate with team to perform product and equipment changeovers.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

  • Participate in process improvement activities.

  • Demonstrate and understand safety as a core value and follow the key essentials to safety as set forth by our safety resolution; reinforce and coaches others to do the same.

  • Understand and follow established safety guidelines, consistently comply with all safety procedures (e.g. PPE, Lock Out Tag Out).

  • Support food safety, legality, and quality programs.

  • Maintain product quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications and quality procedures. Monitors and documents quality measures using analytical tools.

  • Perform other duties as needed in support of business objectives and Starbucks Mission & Values.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • High school diploma/GED, US military service or equivalent

  • Operating manual and automated packaging equipment (2 years)

  • Performing quality tests using analytical tools (1 year)

  • Regulated food manufacturing environment (1 year)

  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot minor machine failures and make minor adjustments (1 year)

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to understand written policies and guidelines, specifications, and safety standards

  • Ability to work with a diverse team environment

  • Ability to work in accordance with safety, quality and sanitation standards, policies, and procedures

  • Ability to repair minor mechanical issues on machines and systems

  • Experience conducting quality tests and analyzing data

  • Ability to train others and measure effectiveness

  • Basic math skills

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Mechanical knowledge of automated machines and tools

  • Ability to work in accordance with quality, safety, and sanitation standards, policies and guidelines

  • Ability to work variable shifts to support business needs

  • Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards including Preventive Controls for Human Food (FDA Code of Federal Regulations) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with the GFSI certification schemes (i.e. BRC and/or or SQF). (Preferred)

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
