The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Finance (Baltimore City) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineer III position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification .
Nature of Work : The Transportation Engineer III will function in SHA’s Federal Aid Programming Section (FAPS) by reviewing advertisements for all projects utilizing federal funds throughout SHA. This position functions as part of the State Advertisement Review Team that provides guidance and oversight to Project Engineers throughout SHA to ensure their advertised projects follow all Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) regulations, policies, and procedures related to advertisement of projects. In addition, this position serves as a liaison between SHA and the FHWA Maryland Division Office on federally funded projects with the responsibility of monitoring/managing the FHWA program as directed by the FHWA/SHA Stewardship Agreement. Under this Agreement SHA assumes responsibility for the approval of federally funded projects without direct oversight from FHWA. Finally, this position assists the work unit in ensuring that SHA’s annual federal funds allocation (valued at $700-$800 million) is utilized each year.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.
Preferred Qualification:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of mainframe general ledger accounting packages
Notes:
Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
