Job Description
Scope of Work
The youth case management intern will support the activities of the youth program at the IRC. The youth program supports incoming refugee students and families to succeed in U.S. schools through providing orientations to the U.S. school system, facilitating parent engagement in their children’s education, and supporting public schools to serve refugee students. The IRC youth program works in close partnership with the Refugee Youth Project at Baltimore City Community College, Soccer Without Borders, Baltimore City Public Schools, and Baltimore County Public Schools. The youth case management intern will work closely with the youth services team to provide direct services to refugee families.

Learning Objectives
Learn about the refugee resettlement process in the U.S., and specifically in Maryland.
Learn about the school registration process for refugee students in local public schools.
Learn how to provide sensitive support to students, parents/guardians, and schools.
Responsibilities
Assist with all youth case management activities, including school registrations, appointments for immunizations, home visits, and other referrals.
Assist with required documentation such as case-noting and case file preparation.
Support facilitation of weekly evening tutoring and mentoring program.
Other tasks as assigned.
Position Details
IN-PERSON: Summer 2025 internships will be in-person. This includes a combination of standard office environment, remote work, and field time within the greater Baltimore area.
DATES:Internships start with a required in-person orientation on Monday, June 2nd, 2025 (approx. 9:30 AM – 3 PM) at the IRC Baltimore office. Regular weekly hours start the week of June 2nd, 2025, and will continue through August 22nd, 2025 (12 total weeks).
HOURS:Internships require a minimum of 15 hours per week for 12 weeks. Interns should be able to come to the office at least 1 day per week.
LAPTOP:Interns will be issued an IRC laptop for the duration of the internship to perform both remote and in-office responsibilities.
REIMBURSEMENT:Internships with the IRC in Baltimore are unpaid. University credit may be arranged. Summer 2025 interns are eligible for per diem reimbursement at the rate of $15 per day (defined as 7.5 hours) to offset the costs of food and travel of the internship. Interns may also be reimbursed for mileage driven for any approved activities (based on round-trip mileage from the IRC office).

INTERVIEWS:Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted to schedule interviews between April 21st – May 5th, 2025. Due to the volume of applications, only applicants who are selected for interviews will be contacted. Interviews will be conducted approximately May 7th and May 8th , 2025.
OFFERS:Applicants who have interviewed for positions can expect to receive a decision no later than May 19th, 2025. Confirmations will be due at the latest by May 23rd, 2025.
Qualifications
Prior experience and/or interest working with refugees and immigrants preferred.
Prior experience and/or interest in case management, social work or education preferred.
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced and global environment.
Flexible and reliable, with outstanding attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications (databases, Box).
-Fluency in English required. Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable access to a vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel regularly throughout Baltimore strongly preferred.
