About the Position:

This position will be the primary resource for programming and maintaining the gas chromatographs, and other instruments in the Beaumont Chemical Plant laboratory. The incumbent will lead in setting up and executing the calibration program for the laboratory to assure methods are valid and instruments are performing as designed. They will assist or direct others in the preparation of laboratory standards and solutions and may be required to perform non-routine analytical testing to expedite shipment of product.

Research, develop, and implement new technologies for testing product at the Beaumont Chemical Plant QA laboratory. This position will also execute activities and special projects to enhance the current testing capabilities. This will include but not limited to method developments, training of associates, compiling reports as needed, and directing activities to positively impact the performance of the laboratory.

This position may supervise or coordinate the activities of the Lab Technicians, QA Analysts, or other positions within the QA organization.

This position will report to the QA Team Leader for the Beaumont Chemical plant and may also be required to serve as back up to the Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and maintain gas chromatographs, mass spectrophotometer, liquid chromatographs, and other instruments in the laboratory.

  • Develop and manage the laboratory calibration program, including standard solutions, analytical testing, statistical methods, and studies to ensure the accuracy of the methods and instrument performance.

  • Research, trial, and implement new technologies to enhance the testing capability of the laboratory. Liaise with corporate Research and Development organization to bring technologies into the Beaumont testing lab.

  • Train other associates on new technologies as needed to ensure consistent laboratory operational performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science with at least a minor in Chemistry is required.

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry is desired.

  • 3-5 years of gas chromatography experience in method development, troubleshooting and maintenance

  • 3-5 years of quantitative solution makeup experience

  • Strong working knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for data storage, retrieval ad reporting.

  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing plant laboratory environment experience (polymer plant experience preferred)

  • Desired experience with Mass spectrophotomer, UV-Vis, HPLC technologies

Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of various chemical analysis and analytical instrumentation.

  • Demonstrable technical writing skills

  • Ability to program and implement data acquisition software.

  • Proficient in statistical techniques associated with calibration systems.

  • Must be self-directed and a self-starter, with little supervision.
