In this role you will be responsible for developing Concepts and Design Requirements for wired and wireless network systems and applications installed on locomotives. In this role you will work closely with a team of Software Engineers, QA Engineers, Scrum Master, Product Owners, System Engineers, and Product Managers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drive the execution the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirement.

  • Be responsible for System - Subsystem Level Design requirements for wireless communications, networking, video systems / analytics, and other software functions by providing Product Descriptions, ICD’s, FMEA’s, DFSS / DFR Scorecards, Engineering Support Requests, and other input documents.

  • Define and manage Interfaces to all sub-system in compliance to the system solution.

  • Work with Project and Application engineers in developing the application software.

  • Define System Validation Plans, execute System Validation Testing, and work with Test Engineers to ensure traceability to verifications cross reference matrices.

  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

  • Take ownership of tech concepts, solution, risks / mitigation plans, and engineering cost estimates on proposals

  • Maintain broad awareness of technical trends to ensure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work, and reviews and responsiveness to customer / program needs.

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical / science discipline

  • Minimum of 6 years of technical experience along with established technical leadership credentials across product lines.

  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on design and implementation experience involving; Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Electrical Design

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/ Master's in Electronics / Electrical, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science Engineering, or other technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 6 years of technical experience along with established technical leadership credentials across product lines.

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands- on design and implementation experience involving Engineering Systems, Embedded Systems, Hardware, and Software.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong technical expertise in embedded systems, storage drives, ethernet, TCP / IP, serial communication.

  • Background in System Design and Validation on systems involving; Microprocessors and Communication Peripherals

  • Understanding and translating customer requirements for Applications development for software solutions

  • Experience with DOORs Requirements Management Tools.

  • Experience with System Testing Processes, Tools, and Automation

  • Hands-on capability to handle test equipment and tools and Excel data manipulation aspects (Condensing large amounts of information)

  • Embedded programming and/or experience with real time operating systems (QNX/Linux).

  • Self-starter with the ability to lead the effort with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees.

  • Ability to implement customer and industry standards.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.

  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements, and estimating efforts.

  • Skilled in negotiation to align stakeholders and communicate a single synthesized perspective to the product development team. Balances value propositions from competing stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of technologies in the market to help make buy vs build recommendations, scope MVPs, and to drive timing decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needs, requirements, or course corrections necessary before they are articulated by stakeholders.

  • Delivers while mentoring and helping junior team members.

  • Identifies misalignments with goals, objectives, and work direction against the organizational strategy. Makes suggestions to course correct or escalates appropriately.
