This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a Hardware Verification and Validation Engineer to work directly with the innovative technology in our products! This individual will focus on hardware validation and reliability of Electronics controls which include:

  • Appliance Control Units (ACUs)

  • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)

  • Next-generation LCD controls

  • Interactions of these controls with the rest of the appliance, any use cases.

  • Power and control of motors, switches, sensors, etc. (This is case by case basis).

Your responsibilities will include

  • Collaborate with the teams across Whirlpool to ensure these products meet high-reliability standards.

  • Work alongside Design Teams from initial conceptualization to final sign-off stage of the project with data-driven demonstrated reliability.

  • Own and drive hardware validation efforts for Electronic controls programs. Your job is to become a product expert, figure out how it could fail, and collaborate with design partners to drive changes.

  • Develop and maintain automation-focused test software to streamline execution, data collection, and data analysis

  • Design and build custom test equipment such as test PCBAs, harnesses, and fixtures to make validation efficient, modular, and repeatable

  • Manage tests from setup through execution. Coordinate test resources and own validation schedules to communicate status with System Integrators.

  • Work with the design partners, reliability team, and suppliers to root cause test failures and arrive at a corrective action

  • Collaborate with test technicians to perform component validation by simulating realistic and/or accelerated usage &; environmental conditions

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • 3+ years of electronics product development or electronics product testing

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent with electronics skillset.

  • Proven technical experience through internships, industry, passion projects, academic/ extracurricular activities

  • Root cause and recreate failure mode

  • Analyze test data and document in test reports, share results with the team to understand failures and improve designs

  • Build the appropriate electrical environment for each unit being tested, reaching out to firmware and hardware teams to bring up the device under test

  • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals with experience using standard lab equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, o-scopes, DMM's, etc.)

  • Genuine curiosity to figure out why something doesn’t work; demonstrated experience debugging and troubleshooting technical problems

  • You love to be hands-on, understand how to interact with a system and automate repeatable tasks. You thrive on efficiency, and hate to see someone waste their time on something a script, fixture, or robotic system could do

  • Knowledge of different sensors, what they do, and how to interact with them

  • Embedded firmware / hardware experience

  • Experience leading and driving technical projects to completion, especially when multiple teams' input and buyoff are required

  • Comfort with balancing competing priorities and timelines, discussing prioritization and alignment of work with external teams when resources are constrained RSRWH
