O'Neal Steel currently has an opening for a Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager at our Corporate office in Birmingham, AL.

General Description:

The Corporate HSE Manager will manage and execute O’Neal Steel’s Health, Safety, and Sustainability programs, providing strategic direction and leadership. This position will oversee organizational compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate expertise in connecting safety initiatives to O’Neal Steel strategy and organization effectiveness, utilizing excellent change management techniques.

  • Ensure Safety compliance with all current and developing country and location regulations, codes, and key constraints.

  • Work with the O’Neal Steel team to develop and implement standardized programs to maintain full compliance with Health and Safety regulations and standards, with the goal of meeting/exceeding metrics.

  • Perform annual safety audits at all locations.

  • Measure plant performance, benchmarking against best-in-class manufacturing to create and implement plans that focus on continuous improvement.

  • Develop, review, maintain and conduct Health and Safety program training that will enhance Health and Safety performance.

  • Provide strategic direction to sustain a comprehensive system for hazard prevention and control.

  • Implement and maintain a behavior-based safety program.

  • Manage Safety & Health programs within O’Neal Steel plants to include International Environmental, Health and Safety regulations. This includes developing and providing guidance to all Managers and safety personnel at all locations.

  • Collaborate with plant leadership to ensure all programs are being fully executed and evaluate culture and accountability throughout the plant

  • Develop a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of near misses and accidents, as well as generate required reporting.

  • Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses and exposure to long-term health hazards.

  • Assure proper recordkeeping of results in all areas and develop effective and efficient reporting mechanisms that meet regulations and keep leadership informed.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

  • Willing to participate and engage in metals industry trade associations and events.

Required Skills, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety & Health, or related field.

  • 7+ years’ experience in Health and Safety roles involving leading and coaching employees.

  • Excellent leadership abilities and extensive knowledge of OSHA & EPA requirements.

  • Knowledge of global safety and environmental requirements.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management.

  • Knowledge and experience with Behavior-Based Safety techniques.
