Position Title: Scheduler I, II, or III

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Position Purpose:

Develops a broad understanding of power market and natural gas pipeline system configuration through scheduling Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s (BEPC) diverse fleet of generating resources and Dakota Gasification Company’s (DGC) natural gas position. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedule BEPC and DGC natural gas purchases and sales on multiple pipelines. Enter daily and monthly natural gas nominations in the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system. Confirm schedules with pipelines and counterparties and resolve discrepancies to meet deadlines.

  • Monitor natural gas pipeline imbalances and perform daily and monthly tie outs to all BEPC and DGC locations in the ETRM system. Ensure ETRM systems contain accurate information for settlement and reporting requirements.

  • Schedule BEPC daily and monthly physical power in multiple markets through acquiring transmission reservations, e-tagging, and implementing Independent System Operator bids/offers. Ensure proper BEPC daily and monthly power generator, resources, load, and transaction schedules are implemented within ETRM systems. Confirm accurate schedules and transactions with balancing authorities and counterparties and resolve discrepancies to meet deadlines in an effective manner.

  • Becomes familiar with interpretating all relevant NERC and North American Energy Standards board (NAESB) tariff language within markets we participate. Become familiar with navigating our trading and scheduling software, including OATI, Allegro, and PCI.

  • Communicate with counterparty scheduling staff and provide scheduling services for entities contracted through BEPC.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining power and natural gas scheduling procedures.

  • Assist with special projects, as requested.

Qualifications :

Scheduler I:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or

  • Associate degree and 2 years of experience in the support of trading or marketing a physical commodity; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 4 years’ experience in trading or marketing a physical commodity.

Scheduler II:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in the support of trading or marketing a physical commodity; or

  • Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience in the support of trading or marketing a physical commodity; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 6 years of experience in trading or marketing a physical commodity.

  • Familiar with all relevant NERC standards and North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) and tariff language within markets we participate.

Scheduler III:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience in the support of trading or marketing a physical commodity; or

  • Associate degree and 6 years of experience in the support of trading or marketing a physical commodity; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 8 years of experience in trading or marketing a physical commodity.

  • Familiar with all relevant NERC standards and North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) and tariff language within markets we participate.

Other Requirements:

  • An understanding of power generation, transmission systems, control area operations, marketing pools, and natural gas pipelines preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to develop and maintain good working relationships.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. Requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
