Watts Water Technologies is seeking a Test and Validation Engineer to focus on New Product Development (NPD) projects. The candidate will be a key contributor within the Watts Heating & Hot Water Solutions (HHWS) NPD Engineering team. This role focuses on ensuring design and production of Electronics and IoT products meet the highest quality and reliability standards.
In this role the candidate will be responsible for design, execution and document methods for testing, verification, validation, and reliability to ensure high quality standards are consistently achieved in electronics and embedded systems-based products.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
FIRMWARE:
Must have hands-on experience working with common programming languages such as “C”, “C++”, and Python.
Must have a good understanding of, and experience with, embedded Linux and real time operating systems.
HARDWARE:
Must have experience analyzing and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits including schematics.
Must be proficient in the use of electronic test instrumentations such as meters, oscilloscopes, emulators, etc.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Defect tracking and reporting approaches and tools such as GitHub, Gitlab or Jira
Most standard communications environments and protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong technical writing and documentation skills
5+ years of technical experience in hardware and firmware testing and troubleshooting complex systems involving Software, Electronics, Automation, Controls, Instrumentation, and/or Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices
Knowledge and understanding of the Engineering Design Process within New Product Development
Ability to travel – up to 5%
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Testing and validation over the full product development process within the Stage Gate process, including:
Review of product requirements and technical specifications to ensure appropriate test strategies can be designed and executed effectively and efficiently
Design, planning, execution and reporting on software, electronics and mechanical engineering design integration and system tests
Design, planning, execution and reporting on quality and reliability tests, e.g., HALT, MTTF
Design, planning, execution, and reporting on product validation to meet customer and user performance expectations
Contributing to development and implementation of improvements to testing procedures and equipment to increase process efficiency and product quality
Participate in project planning to ensure all testing and validation requirements are completed within the overall project schedule and timelines for milestones and deliverables
Work closely with other disciplines in Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Manufacturing, and IT internally and other Watts enterprise global business units

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Software development experience with C, C+, C++, and/or Python
Experience with SSH to connect to embedded devices
Experience with DROPBEAR, BASH or other command line interfaces
Experience with sys/class kernel driver control
Development of test automation including dynamic simulation models and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing
Knowledge of electronics and embedded system design and performance focused on consumer products
HALT/HASS and MTTF testing methodology and equipment
Electronics Testing & Validation experience in HVAC industry a plus
EDUCATION:
Technologist diploma or bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline such as Electrical, Electronics and Communications, Systems, Software, Computer Science, or relevant experience
