Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness. - Boca Raton, FL.
Reporting through the Department of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness oversees all operations and actions within a comprehensive fitness and wellness program. This position works closely with strategic university partners to integrate fitness into university-wide wellness initiatives and educational programming.
Summary of responsibilities:
Fitness and Wellness Initiatives
Remain abreast of national, university, and local trends within the field of health and fitness; in order to continually assess the needs of the FAU community.
Oversee the success of a comprehensive fitness program that includes; Personal Training, Group Fitness, Instructional Programs, and Fitness Outreach and Education.
Maintain annual fitness budget, monitor expenses, and develop revenue projections
Manage the planning and implementation of specialized fitness programs including various fitness outreach events.
Foster collaborative relationships with university constituents to develop an integrative approach to fitness and wellness programming.
Support and maintain a culture and environment that promotes the overall wellbeing of the FAU community.
Provide leadership, training, and support for student and employee fitness and wellness programs at the partner campuses.
Assist with establishing a long-term vision and strategic plan of university wellness initiatives.
Assist in the evaluation of fitness equipment purchases related to the department’s repair and replacement plan.
Staff Development & Supervision
Responsible for recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of the Fitness Coordinator
Assist in the hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of student or OPS staff.
Provide support and oversee the development of two student Fitness Managers and approximately 15 Certified Personal Trainers and 25 Certified Group Fitness Instructors.
Maintain records of all necessary and applicable certifications for all staff under the department’s fitness and wellness area
Risk Management
Create and direct risk management plan for group exercise, personal training and preparation programs with regard to applicable laws and industry standards/best practices.
Coordinate and/or teach American Red Cross CPR/First Aid, Blood borne pathogen and AED certification courses for all departmental staff
Assessment
Assist with development of departmental strategic plan and annual assessment materials
Make decisions based on alignment with and achievement of the department’s strategic plan and action steps
Assist with preparing monthly and annual reports.
Miscellaneous
Assist in the preparation of the department’s budget.
Assist with department and division wide programs and initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.
Salary:
$55,000 - $60,000 per year.
