Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an Accountant or Senior Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.

What does an Accountant or Senior Accountant do for us?

Position ensures the accuracy of the financial statements of IDACORP and its subsidiaries, by performing the following functions:

  • Prepares timely, high-quality workpapers that support the preparation and/or review of journal entries

  • Verifies accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of accounting entries, through the preparation and/or review of journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Analyzes, interprets, and applies a wide variety of accounting standards as promulgated by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)

  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reports for internal and external reporting (FERC, Idaho Public Utilities Commission, Oregon Public Utilities Commission, etc.)

  • Maintains and ensures compliance with all pertinent Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) documentation and requirements, along with other company and regulatory requirements; acts as a control owner where applicable

  • Works closely with all Business Units to support any accounting needs and advise on accounting issues

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Financial accounting principles and theory in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles

  • Personal computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook for use in developing models for analysis and presentations

  • Accounting software

  • Business logic

Preferred:

  • Experience with Peoplesoft

  • Ability to write and review query parameters to obtain financial data within subledger accounting systems

  • Use of other specialized software

Skills in:

  • Effective oral and written communication with all levels of audiences

  • Coordinating with other departments, companies, and agencies to create an effective communication network and working relationships

Ability to:

  • Prepare work product accurately, legibly, and in accordance with the deadlines set forth

  • Answer accounting questions and research entries made thru various sub-ledger accounting systems

  • Prepare reports using a variety of report writing tools

  • Prioritize and manage time and deal effectively with pressure and deadlines

  • Be detail oriented

  • Function efficiently in an automated environment

  • Evaluate and improve work processes

  • Work both independently and within a team setting

  • Develop working relationships with other company teams

  • Accept and provide constructive feedback

  • Safeguard the use of sensitive and confidential information

Preferred:

  • Apply basic business logic to various special studies

  • Oversee several complex projects simultaneously while maintaining a high degree of accuracy

  • Present proposals and projects as requested

  • Interpret and apply GAAP and FERC accounting regulations within regulatory proposals in order to meet both accounting rules and regulations and meet the needs of the company and those who regulate it

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Accountant

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in a corporate accounting environment or in public accounting

Preferred:

  • Utility accounting experience

  • Public accounting experience

  • Working with FERC requirements

Senior Accountant

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in a corporate accounting environment or in public accounting

OR

  • A combination of 4 years of experience with an advanced degree, CPA license, or CMA certification

Preferred:

  • Utility accounting experience

  • Public accounting experience

  • Working with FERC requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
