Are you passionate about focused ion beam (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM)? Micron has an outstanding TEM lab under Technology Development (TD) at its Headquarters located in Boise, Idaho. We have the most sophisticated TEMs available in the electron microscope field and state-of-art FIB tools for the preparation of TEM specimens. TEM lab is crafting novel workflow and its specialized automation solutions to achieve next-level efficiency, accuracy and precision of sampling and data quality. This candidate will be assigned for advanced FIB and TEM techniques to build automated process and support next generation DRAM and NAND in TD. In addition, your growth opportunities include developing your knowledge of semiconductor device physics and processing and various characterization techniques. Successful candidates for this position will be placed at corresponding engineer level based on previous experience and education.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop templates and recipes to automate sample preparation of various Micron part types.

  • Transfer newly developed solutions to other teams in TD and global manufacturing sites.

  • Develop, validate, and implement in-house architectural scripts for automatic TEM data collection, data processing and reporting to reduce time to data and improve cycle of learning.

  • Apply data science on tool parameters and images/TEM data to optimize recipes and provide feedback to process teams.

  • Drive automation roadmap through collaboration with instrument vendors and internal teams.

  • Perform daily FIB operation and demonstration to support new technology development at Micron from wafer receiving, wafer management, maintaining systems ready for operation to sample-to-data completion.

  • Quality communication to exceed internal customer’s critical requests covering topics for the high-quality TEM samples by owning Innovate FIB techniques or embracing sophisticated FIB techniques.

  • Develop, validate, and deploy sample preparation and TEM analysis process automation.

  • Develop or embrace solutions to improve the efficiency of sample preparation.

  • Provide detailed pass down to the people in next shift to make smooth shift transition.

  • Make contributions to optimize the existing Lab procedures and maintain the lab environment within the scope of safety requirement.

  • Train colleagues to use validated solutions.

  • Mentor team members to develop their technical skills related to TEM and sample preparation automation.

  • Ability to advise Micron’s sophisticated global FIB user groups.

Qualifications:

  • Skilled experience and proven knowledge in FIB operation are preferred.

  • Creative and proactive to solve problems in fast-pacing dynamic work environment.

  • Experience in creative problem solving and innovative solutions.

  • Experience in automation or scripting and programming skills using Python, C, etc.

  • Experience in machine vision and pattern recognition.

  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently and hardworking in learning new technology and knowledge.

  • Be a phenomenal teammate to work with other FIB & TEM engineers and processing groups to advance the technology development.

  • Positive and ambitious demeanor with effective oral and written communications.

  • Excellent knowledge of thermodynamics, kinetics, crystallography, ion and electron diffraction, chemical analysis.

  • Familiarity with TEM and its operation is a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a semiconductor-related engineering field.
