Position Summary
The City of Bozeman Water Reclamation Facilities team is excited to be accepting applications for a Water Reclamation Facilities Operation I. The ideal candidate will be passionate about protecting the East Gallatin River through the maintenance and repair of a variety complex mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, blowers, boilers, turbines, vehicles, and electrical systems in assigned division. This position will also operate semi-tractor trailer or other heavy equipment such as dump trucks or graders as well as operating wastewater sludge injection equipment.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt
Work Week: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm during initial training then transitioning to four 10-hour days from Wednesday - Saturday or Sunday - Wednesday.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Repairs or rebuilds City equipment as necessary, including pumps, electric motors, boilers, compressors, gear reducers, valves, tractors, loaders, graders, lawn mowers, and other related equipment;
Performs a variety of preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation, including inspecting, lubricating and servicing vehicles and equipment according to prescribed schedules;
Performs basic maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting of equipment and facilities to ensure compliance with established standards, including welding, fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical repairs;
Maintains the interior and exterior of the assigned buildings in a clean and orderly manner to ensure a safe work environment for City employees and the general public;
Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, and specifications as required;
Observes safe work methods, and utilizes related safety equipment as required;
Operates a variety of related hand, power, and shop tools and equipment;
Creates and maintains complete and accurate records of preventive and corrective maintenance work performed;
Operates light, medium and heavy duty equipment and vehicles appropriate to the functional area of assignment;
Inspects equipment, and reports any failures or operating difficulties, including initiating work orders and recommended repairs;
Observes meters, gauges, charts, and instruments, in order to assess the condition of equipment, and accurately records all appropriate information;
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
Ability to read and interpret piping diagrams and equipment shop drawings;
Ability to learn to read and interpret pump curves;
Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;
Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; and
Some (1-3 years) experience in mechanical or electrical equipment maintenance, pump repair, heavy equipment repair, or related maintenance work; or
Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Substantial knowledge of the basic principles and practices of wastewater treatment and reuse;
Substantial knowledge of the use and maintenance of related hand and power tools;
Substantial knowledge of established basic principles of record keeping;
Substantial knowledge of Federal, State, and City safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
Substantial knowledge of mathematics, physics, and fluid flow to ensure accurate and efficient measurements and calculations;
Substantial knowledge of related electrical and electronics principles and troubleshooting techniques;
Ability to analyze mathematical and physical data in an efficient and precise manner;
Ability to work with hazardous chemicals and high voltage electricity in a safe and proper manner;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other City employees, and the general public;
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;
Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;
Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Required Special Qualifications
Must have the ability to respond to the Bozeman Water Reclamation Facility within 20 minutes of being notified when assigned to stand-by assignments;
Satisfactory response to the appropriate post-conditional offer process;
Pre-employment drug testing may be required.
