Transportation Engineer I: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer II: Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer III:Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues arerarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.The essential duties of a Transportation Engineer I, II or III Include: - Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff - May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks - Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements - Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions. - Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible. - Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. - Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies. - Recommends practices and procedures for Critical Path Method scheduling, budgeting, resourcing and baseline management. - Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in report form - Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects. - Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
