Wabtec is seeking a qualified Base Plate Assembler I to join our team in Buffalo Grove, Illinois . The ideal candidate will Assemble and test multiple styles of front and rear bus door electrical and pneumatic actuators. Will need direct supervision from Team Lead and/or manager. Work from blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams and Process Standards Sheets (PSS), Team Leader and manager instructions.

Base Plate Assembler I Job Responsibilities:

  • Using pneumatic tools, hand tools, electric tools, and torque tools to attach and properly secure a wide variety of components and subassemblies to a base plate.

  • May fabricate components to be used in the final assembly such as teeter lever or engine housing or components. Some of these operations may involve light machining and light welding.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

  • Follows assembly drawings, Process Standard Sheet (PSS) instructions and verbal directions from Team Leader and supervisor

  • Use computer to pull up latest drawing of actuator to be assembled.

  • Have basic shop math skills, and ability to read and interrupt blueprints

  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical studies preferred; and one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
