Job Summary

AGym Teacherwith Primary Hall is responsible for educating students on physical fitness, sports, and overall health. They plan and deliver lessons that promote physical activity, teach the rules and skills of various sports, and help students develop motor skills and an understanding of the importance of physical fitness.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lesson Planning:Develop and implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and focus on physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy living.

  • Instruction:Teach students a variety of physical activities, sports, and exercises to improve their fitness, motor skills, and knowledge of health-related topics.

  • Assessment:Evaluate and assess students' physical abilities, fitness levels, and participation, providing feedback and grading as necessary.

  • Safety:Ensure the safety of all students during physical activities, providing appropriate supervision, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

  • Class Management:Manage student behavior during activities, promoting respect, fairness, and inclusivity.

  • Extracurricular Activities:Organize and oversee extracurricular sports teams, clubs, and events, such as school sports days or inter-school competitions.

  • Equipment Management:Maintain and care for physical education equipment, ensuring that it is safe and ready for use.

  • Communication:Communicate with parents, guardians, and school staff about students' progress, challenges, and achievements in physical education.

  • Professional Development:Stay updated with the latest trends in physical education, fitness, and sports, attending workshops, training sessions, and continuing education courses.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Education:Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.

  • Certification:State teaching certification/license in physical education (requirements vary by location).

  • Experience:Previous experience teaching or coaching youth is preferred.

  • Skills:Strong understanding of physical education, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and engage students, and knowledge of first aid and CPR.

Working Conditions

The job involves being active, spending time outdoors, and working in gymnasiums or sports fields. The role may also require involvement in after-school sports programs or events.

Cognitive and Physical Demands

  • Constant Movement:Walking, running, demonstrating exercises, and participating in sports activities.

  • Strength and Endurance:Lifting and setting up equipment, and sometimes physically assisting students with activities.

  • Physical Readiness:Being physically prepared to administer first aid or CPR in case of student injury.

  • Varying Surfaces:Moving on different surfaces like gym floors, fields, or tracks, which can affect joint health over time.

  • Quick Reflexes:Responding quickly to ensure student safety, such as intervening to prevent accidents.

  • Cognitive Load:Developing lesson plans that are age-appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with educational standards requires careful thought and organization.

  • Decision-Making:Selecting appropriate activities, equipment, and instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
