The Walt Disney Company Metadata Specialist in Burbank, California

Part of The Walt Disney Studios, Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music commercialization and marketing: recorded music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally, and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming, and consumer products.

The Metadata Specialist is part of the A&R Administration team, and is primarily responsible for Label Copy collection, creation, vetting, data entry and updating of metadata in DMG’s in-house repertoire management database for specifically assigned projects, in a timely manner to meet deadlines set by the DMG Production Schedule. This involves daily communication and collaboration with various project-leads and executives from A&R, Production, Business Affairs, Sales/Digital, Marketing, Music Royalties, Music Publishing, Finance, International, and Licensing, as well as third party stakeholders, to ensure metadata accuracy and completeness.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle end-to-end label copy management from sourcing, entry into repertoire management system, and distribution to meet Production schedule deadlines, by partnering with A&R and various other internal and external sources. Under supervision, ensure database integrity and alignment with Digital Service Provider expectations, as well as ensure compliance with the AFM and SAG-AFTRA Collective Bargaining Agreements.

  • Proof and edit artwork from Production to provide corrections and guidance to stakeholders.

  • Input updates into repertoire management system as necessary by request from Music Royalties and Accounting.

  • Issue Audio ISRCs by request from internal and third-party partners.

  • Research, vet and confirm Publishing information for third party obligations and licensed masters.

  • Acquire advanced level of understanding and knowledge of DMG releases and production timelines.

  • Develop collaborative relationships with project stakeholders across the company to deliver all releases complete and on-time.

  • Provide weekly project database entry notification report and present updates at Production and Post-Production Meetings.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years related experience; recording and music publishing industry and label copy knowledge preferred.

  • 2+ years of database management

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education & experience.

  • Basic office administrative skills, including efficient typing (email, phones).

  • Proficient in MSOffice Suite/Excel (knowledge of filtering, formulas, formatting, etc.).

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships.

  • Clear and concise communication skills.

  • Ability to work under tight and constantly shifting deadlines.

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $60,000 to $77,500 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
