As a key member of our HR leadership team, you will play a critical role to attract, engage and retain top talent for the health system.

Job Overview

The System Director of Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning develops, directs and implements the Talent Acquisition and Workforce functions for the organization, providing direction to the Tufts Medicine Talent Acquisition team. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring departmental goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for Tufts Medicine. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibility is providing strategic direction while overseeing the day-to-day operations, budgeting, financial management, and human resource management for Talent Acquisition at Tufts Medicine. The Director works closely with a variety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of Talent Acquisition and Workforce across the enterprise. Reporting to the Chief Talent Officer, the System Director serves as the programmatic and operational leader for Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in business administration, human resources, organizational psychology, or a related field.

  2. Ten (10) years of experience in human resources, Talent Acquisition and business operations including a successful track record leading talent acquisition teams and programs within healthcare that increase the overall performance of the organization and workforce.

  3. Five (5) years of management experience and proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team across the Health System.

  4. Strong HRIS and ATS experience and familiarity with using and manipulating data. Workday experience required, with preferable strong experience in Workday Recruiting

  5. Ability to utilize analytics and reports to influence workforce planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience developing and evolving talent acquisition/workforce strategies within Academic Medical Center, community hospital, care at home and corporate settings.

  2. Experience leading creative recruitment tools, technologies, and platforms to enhance process efficiencies.

  3. Experience leading change management and managing large scale recruitment and workforce programs.

  4. Experience with mergers and acquisitions, system integration and working within union environments.

  5. Experience improving systems and processes, building credibility with line clients, focusing on continuous improvement, measurement and best practice assessment.

  1. Collaborates with the CHRO, Chief Talent Officer and Executive Leaders to develop and implement a strategic talent acquisition strategy that aligns with Tufts Medicine’s business objectives.

  2. Provides leadership to the enterprise-wide talent acquisition team for all executive, clinical (excluding Physician and APC) and non-clinical employees. Ensures a strong recruiting culture focused on candidate experience, diversity, timeliness, and quality, while meeting the demanding hiring needs of the enterprise.

  3. Builds upon our foundation of talent acquisition analytics and reporting, ensuring the talent acquisition team has access to and is versed in utilizing data to influence others and make decisions at the overall function level, as well as at the individual search level.

  4. Serves as a thought leader on sourcing, assessment, and selection techniques to ensure a highly effective, results-oriented recruiting and selection process.

  5. Determines with a collaborative approach KPIs and SLA’s for talent acquisition across Tufts Medicine.

  6. Functions as an engaged, trusted partner with HR and business leaders and broader HR Organization

  7. Ensures compliance with related audit requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, record retention, EEO capture, etc.).

  8. Functions as an engaged, trusted partner with HR and business leaders and broader HR Organization.

  9. Partners with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to design recruitment initiatives for diverse talent and create a formal D&I recruitment strategy that includes implementing strategic plans to improve the candidate experience, maintain a pipeline of candidates, and establish goals/metrics related to D&I talent acquisition.

  10. Engages in rigorous problem-solving definition, data collection, and analysis, then making impactful and concise decisions in the face of uncertainty and ambiguity.

  11. Responsible for employer branding, job site optimization, and innovative candidate sourcing strategies.

  12. Works collaboratively with System Director of Workforce Development to leverage community relationships and network extensively to source candidates for open positions.

  13. Develops, implements, and tracks key SLAs/KPIs as it relates to talent acquisition drive team and operational efficiencies.

  14. Develops the infrastructure and departmental designs needed to support a high-functioning talent acquisition function across Tufts Medicine.

  15. Models leadership competencies, and behaviors while leading as a unified team to drive team and operational alignment.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Exceptional business acumen and business management skills including planning, program/project management, financial management, and translating business requirements into organization and individual development requirements.

  2. Exceptional data and analytics skills to support System Workforce Planning efforts.

  3. Self-initiating, independent thinker who can develop and market both long-term business strategies and short-term tactical plans with a focus on execution. This is a role of influence, and a balance between strategy and tactics is critical.

  4. Strong change management communication abilities, managing large scale changes at a system level.

  5. Ability to work in a matrixed, high paced environment.

  6. Ability to lead HR transformation efforts, including building teams, driving innovation, and improving value and cost.

  7. Ability to successfully build relationships with key stakeholders; CEOs, CNOs and Executive Leadership team and leaders across the system.

  8. Highly developed communication and organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively and credibly with stakeholders and colleagues.

  9. Advocates for the desired culture in high-level planning and decision making, with a focus on performance accountability and achieving greater operational efficiencies.

Job Profile Summary

​This role focuses on supporting the design, development, and implementation of human resource programs and policies, including recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, mobility, talent acquisition, diversity, talent management & organization development and employee/labor relations. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Talent Acquisition duties: Attracts, finds, and acquires skilled labor for organization needs including talent evaluation and screening (assessing skills, testing, ranking, reference checking, etc.), job advertising and posting internally and externally, including third party recruiting agencies, talent prospecting at employment fairs and on campus at educational institutions, talent staffing and planning, managing new employee induction process, and may be responsible for exit interviews. A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that directs a department or small unit that includes multiple teams led by managers and/or team Leaders. Responsibilities typically include: ownership of short to mid-term (1-3 years) execution of functional strategy and the operational direction of the Department, problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis, and requires ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.
