Our team is growing, and as a result we're adding a Junior Groundwater Modeller to our group. As part of the team in Prairies and North, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our Earth and Environment service offerings through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.

A day in the life:
You’ll assist project managers / technical leads with the execution of a broad range of hydrogeology technical services which may include involvement in the groundwater components of Environmental Impact Assessments for the oil sands industry, baseline hydrogeological studies, mine dewatering projects, and groundwater supply projects
You’ll support in the development and application of analytical and numerical groundwater models as required to support groundwater modelling projects
You’ll manage and use data, either collected in the field or provided by clients, to assist with project reporting, which may include: completion of data analysis, borehole logs, data tables, or the analysis and interpretation of model results
You will assist with the analysis and interpretation of model results and hydrogeological data and preparation of reports
You are a self-starter and be able to take ownership of project tasks using their technical knowledge
You’ll follow and understand the health and safety policies and procedures of WSP and our clients
You’ll take an active role in working with a mentor and other team members to support your individual career progression and growth
You will work closely with other members of the groundwater modelling team in Calgary as well as the wider WSP groundwater technical community across Canada and around the world in a collaborative environment

Undergraduate Degree in Civil, Geological or Environmental Engineering or Geology/Hydrogeology.
Specialization in groundwater modelling through course work or undergraduate projects/thesis is preferred; candidates with degrees in Geology or Environmental Sciences who have strong analytical and quantitative skills and candidates with other degrees having a strong quantitative component such as physics or applied mathematics will also be considered
Strong all-around academic knowledge of physical hydrogeology. Knowledge of Alberta geology would be an asset
Eligibility to become licensed as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist in the Province of Alberta (or equivalent)
Strong computer skills including working with GIS-type software, digital databases, visualization software (Leapfrog), etc.
Exposure to or experience with industry-standard numerical modelling packages (e.g., MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, MIKE SHE) would be an asset
Programming experience would be an asset
Some practical field experience with physical hydrogeology including borehole logging, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing, or water sampling would be an asset
Solid organizational skills (prioritization, time management, record keeping, follow up, tracking)
Strong communication and technical writing skills
