CN Facility Maintenance Carpenter in Capreol, Ontario

Job Summary

The Facility Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for both corrective and preventative maintenance on all CN properties. The position requires travel within the assigned given territory to perform daily tasks assigned by the Foreman.

Major Responsibilities

· Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on all CN properties

· Prioritize work accordingly

· Respond immediately to emergencies as they arise

Working Conditions

· The role is partially performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions and may require overtime work to respond to critical incidences

· The role requires extensive travel (80%) within the territory and requires overnight stays out of town

· The role requires physical labour and the incumbent must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50lbs

Requirements

· Must posses a valid Red Seal certification as a Journeyman Carpenter

· Must have a valid class G licence

· Must be able to qualify for non main track operating rules certification

· Must pass certification in Emergency First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Fall Arrest, Working at Heights, and Aerial Platforms

· The role must be able to complete tasks both unsupervised and within a team

· Must be able to layout and perform all related work involved with the maintenance of commercial structures

· Must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of carpentry and construction (e.g., wood framing, steel framing, concrete forming and pouring, siding, flooring, door and door hardware installation and maintenance, drywall, tile work, drop ceilings, painting, blueprint reading and line diagrams, etc.)

· Thorough understanding of Ontario Building Code

· Thorough understanding of construction practices in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC), Electrical, Plumbing and building envelope science*

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

Training

The Facilities Maintenance General Carpenter has a probationary 3-month period, subject to evaluation of skills and competency, plus successful completion of all necessary training certifications and programs.

This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement
