ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Performs intermediate professional work providing nutritional care and services for the Health Department and coordinates the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) Program through essential functions such as: supervises WIC staff; monitors the WIC program budget; plans for daily activities; provides comprehensive nutritional care to clients; modifies State policies into systematic operational procedures; provides in-service programmatic training; handles any vendor problems which might arise; does related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Advanced knowledge and skill in comprehensive nutrition assessment and care planning, including problem diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds and ages, who have a multitude of complex, high-risk medical needs Advanced knowledge and skill in theoretical principles and practices of normal and clinical nutrition and dietetics, particularly in areas of disease pathophysiology and medical rehabilitation Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, the general public, other professionals, and associates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Masters Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and one (1) year of experience OR Bachelors Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of nutrition experience AND Registered Dietitian with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (Candidates should provide documentation of registration status from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics; provide college or university transcripts or ACEND/CADE verification statement) Applications for Nutritionist II or Nutritionist I work against will be considered if no qualified Nutritionist III applicants are available. The starting salary for Nutritionist I work against is $42,449.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina drivers license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
