What you will do

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Development, implementation and maintenance of Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with company, local, state, and federal (OSHA) regulations and industry best practices.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact during safety incidents and emergencies.

  • Manage environmental permitting process for the plant and warehouse to ensure permits to not expire; prepare/submit all necessary compliance reports; maintain all records required for compliance demonstration to regulatory agencies.

  • Conduct regular Safety and Environmental inspections and audits of the plant facilities, equipment, and processes to identify and reduce potential workplace hazards, work practices and working conditions, and ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental standards.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to Safety and Environmental inspections, training, incidents, and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to address Safety and Environmental concerns and develop corrective action plans to mitigate risks and prevent accidents or injuries.

  • Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, acts and conditions, to determine root-causes and recommend reactive and preventive measures.

  • Maintain and analyze records of workplace injuries, illness, and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies.

  • Coordination of Safety and Environmental training programs for employees, including new hire orientation, hazard awareness, emergency response, and other relevant topics.

  • Lead Safety and Environmental and star point meetings and provide input on safety initiatives, programs, and improvements.

  • Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to workplace Safety and Environmental and share relevant information with the plant and management.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and other safety-related protocols, including training on such procedures.v

  • Lead routine environmental operations such as waste handling, spill prevention and cleanup activities, stormwater sampling, chemical management, and emissions tracking and reporting.

  • Complete continuous improvement projects (kaizens) related to safety and environmental.

  • Participate and support the Safety and Environmental areas for the Volvo Performance System (VPS) to ensure Customer Success.

  • Identify and support business needs, create, lead, coordinate, and support improvement programs across all departments of the plant and warehouse.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment with occasional exposure to loud noise, potentially hazardous material, and extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

  • Ability to wear PPE as required and to wall, move and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Occasional travel, up to 5%.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.

Minimum Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.

  • 3-5 years of experience in Safety and Environmental, environmental health, or industrial hygiene preferred; Experience in a manufacturing setting a plus.

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal Safety and Environmental regulations, including OSHA requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, or other relevant safety training preferred.
