University of Virginia Clinical Pharmacist- BMT and Malignant Hematology in Charlottesville, Virginia

The oncology pharmacy team at UVA is seeking an individual interested in working in the areas of inpatient malignant hematology, bone marrow transplant, and cellular therapy. Some of the position highlights include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participation in multidisciplinary teaching rounds on one of two combined malignant hematology/BMT services

  • Multidisciplinary team includes attending oncologist(s), oncology fellow, medical residents/interns, hematology/oncology pharmacist, and numerous medical and pharmacy learners

  • Pharmacist ownership of preparing, releasing and coordinating chemotherapy and other anti-cancer orders for inpatient administration using Beacon

  • Including CAR-T therapies and other novel, high risk therapies

  • Opportunities to design and implement supportive care plans and treatment plans in Beacon for new therapies

  • Patient/caregiver medication education:

  • Weekday meds-to-beds service with hematology/oncology pharmacist discharge counseling

  • New start chemotherapy and other anti-cancer therapy counseling (often in conjunction with the hematology/oncology fellow)

  • Opportunities for provider and nursing education on oncology-specific pharmacology and therapeutics

  • Ample chances to mentor and precept PGY2 oncology pharmacy residents, PGY1 pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students

  • Potential teaching roles for VCU School of Pharmacy Oncology Therapeutic modules and/or Oncology Elective course

  • Opportunities to serve on committees within Pharmacy department as well as across the health system enterprise

  • Opportunities to be involved in interdisciplinary quality improvement initiatives and academic research

  • Individual may occasionally rotate into the UVA Cancer Center Outpatient Infusion Pharmacy

Position Compensation Range: $52.46 - $83.94 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor's in pharmacy or PharmD degree required.

  • Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience (3 years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas. Individuals with PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy and/or malignant hematology/BMT work experience will be highly considered for interview.

  • Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider. BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods. Repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull <20 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
