University of Virginia Data Visualization Designer in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Analytics and Reporting team at UVA Health System is seeking a Data Visualization Designer with strong Tableau expertise to join our team. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying impactful data visualizations to support decision-making across UVA Health. The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency in Tableau, a keen eye for data storytelling, and the ability to engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective visual solutions.

Successful candidates will combine technical skills with creative vision, working closely with analysts, data scientists, and healthcare experts to improve data accessibility and usability.

This role will:

• Develop and deploy Tableau dashboards that support clinical, operational, and strategic decision-making.

• Work with stakeholders across UVA Health to understand reporting needs, gather requirements, and ensure dashboards align with business objectives.

• Optimize dashboard performance and usability by implementing best practices in Tableau development.

• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and IT teams to integrate data sources and ensure seamless functionality.

• Provide training and support to end users, enhancing data literacy and effective dashboard utilization.

• Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve UVA Health’s data visualization capabilities.

• Experience with JavaScript and Angular is a plus, particularly for extending visualization capabilities beyond Tableau.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in data visualization, analytics, or a related field.

• Strong proficiency in Tableau (certification is a plus).

• Experience in stakeholder engagement to gather requirements and develop meaningful visualizations.

• Knowledge of SQL and data modeling concepts preferred.

• Experience in healthcare analytics is a plus but not required.

• Experience with JavaScript and Angular is a plus but not required.

Position Compensation Range: $43.04 - $68.86 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: 5 years relevant experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
