Your Opportunity

The role of an Engineering Graduate or Engineer in Training (EIT) is to work as a team member with intermediate engineers, senior engineers and technologists in project teams of all sizes. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of tasks, and meeting attendance and recording.

In general, this role will assist the more senior engineers/designers of the team by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments and may assist in the analysis of proposed projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering design tasks which may include preparing engineering drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, engineering reports, preparing applications for regulatory agencies.

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.

  • Attend and assist in client, contractor, stakeholder, and regulatory agency meetings to gain a better understanding of client goals, project requirements, site assessments, key challenges, coordination requirements.

  • Assist in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

  • Assist with the development of job specific discipline specifications.

  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.

  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.

  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.

  • Conduct part time and full time construction review services as required by the authority having jurisdiction (requires the use of GPS/total station survey equipment).

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • General understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design, including gravity and pressure systems, geotechnical, survey, storm water/drainage design, road design, erosion and sediment control, and grading.

  • General understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Develop a working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and jurisdictional experience and contacts.

  • Ability to approach tasks using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs.

  • Knowledge and skill with AutoCADCivil3D, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or other modeling software is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge and skill with the use of survey equipment (GPS and/or total station) is considered an asset.

  • Taking initiative on tasks in coordination with other members of the design team.

  • Develop the ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.

  • Eligibility for registration as an as an EIT with Engineers Nova Scotia and working toward licensure as a Professional Engineer.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for transportation to construction sites.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $53,300 - $74,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in PEI

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
