Summary:
Under the direction of a certified chaplain, the chaplain ministers to patients and families in regard to religious/spiritual beliefs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff within the context of illness, suffering, loss, and death. Chaplains complete documentation including spiritual assessment, as well as on-going ministry in assigned areas.

EDUCATION
For Chaplains hired prior to 12/20/09 -Chaplains will be grandfathered to the following education.
Ecclesiastical endorsement required
Twenty (20) Units of Continuing Education Units (CEU) annually required
For all chaplains hired after 12/20/09
Master's Degree Preferred
Minimum of two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required
Ecclesiastical endorsement required
EXPERIENCE
For all chaplains hired after 12/20/09

Must be in good standing to serve as a professional chaplain according to the code of ethics for spiritual care professionals and the standards of practice for professional chaplains. Should the chaplain characterize or hold themselves out to be a member of any religious clergy, he or she must be held as a member in good standing of same religious clergy or order at all times while employed at Catholic Health.
Two (2) years of experience in health care ministry
Twenty (20) Units of CEU annually required
