Job Title: Inside Machinist

Job Description

As a Conventional Machinist, you will perform moderately complex assignments in support of our repair and maintenance of OEM equipment. You will be required to perform a variety of related tasks including layout, setup, operating, and making tool adjustments for various types of manual machine shop equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work required as an Inside Machinist with limited supervision.

  • Manufacture complex components from stock or modify parts in accordance with all drawing requirements.

  • Set up and operate all types of machines (lathes, mills, grinders, saws, etc.) and hand tools used in the trade.

  • Use all precision measuring instruments such as outside diameter and inside diameter micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, and layout tools.

  • Accurately record readings and measurements.

  • Read complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, and technical work documents with advanced proficiency.

  • Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on material.

  • Select proper tooling, attachments, and accessories as well as manufacture fixtures to hold workpieces and assemblies.

  • Understand all feed/speed rates and machining characteristics of various materials.

  • Machine complex parts to close tolerances ensuring that finish requirements of drawing specifications are achieved with first-time quality.

  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

  • Work includes small and large assembly, and machining of heavy steel.

  • Apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and machine shop procedures.

  • Perform machine maintenance and keep the work area clean.

  • Report safety issues to the Supervisor immediately.

  • Work independently to complete responsibilities.

  • NDT experience is a plus.

Essential Skills

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.

  • 5 years of machine shop experience and/or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a General Machinist.

  • Ability to machine as per drawing tolerance of .0005" where required.

  • General Machinist skills in lathe, milling, drilling, machine shop power and pneumatic tools.

  • Design and manufacture fixtures and templates.

  • Make own layouts as per drawing.

  • Understand GD&T tolerances.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating forklifts, cranes, plate clamps, and slings is a plus.

  • Expected to have or purchase basic hand tools.

  • Ability to work overtime when necessary and travel up to 25%.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clear driving record.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
