IHG Assistant Director of Human Resources Chicago, Illinois
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the Director of Human Resources
Communications with Executive Committee Members, Department Heads, Managers, Supervisors, and employees
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and investigate all workplace issues to discover facts, identify potential liability and facilitate resolution in support a fair and positive work environment.
Ensure compliance with employment laws, government agencies, and company policies and procedures (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Act, Equal Employment Opportunity, Wage and Hour, Affirmative Action, Records Administration, etc.).
Facilitate the following Hotel and Brand Training & Development Programs: New Hire Orientation, Progressive Discipline, Performance Management, TIPS, Harassment, Brand Training, 30 & 90 Day Check-ins, ADA, Management 101, Group Training Certificate, Managing Performance & Development, Guest Service training, and Union Avoidance Training.
Conduct training needs analysis, working with Department Managers and Trainers on their Annual Training Plans and programs to address specific needs and ensure all employees receive the appropriate training and tools needed to provide excellent guest service and positive employee morale.
Prepare monthly training progress reports which are shared with management team to communicate training accomplishments and objectives.
Ensure each department has an effective Certified Trainer in place; and assist Department Trainers in developing training programs and achieving training objectives with appropriate input and direction from the department heads.
Work with the Security Director to ensure safety related training programs are facilitated to ensure safe work environment in accordance OSHA laws and regulations.
Assist with managing worker’s compensation claims. Participate with the safety committee, ensuring that safety programs are implemented, and that employees are motivated to follow safety procedures.
Direct annual Performance Management Process including training on the Annual Review, Mid-Year, KPOs and PDP (Personal Development Plan) Process. Ensure all managers have completed PDPs and track on a bi-annual and annual basis.
Provide required documentation in response to unemployment claims. Participate in unemployment hearings as needed. Ensure that paperwork is complete and documentation is thorough so the company’s position can be legally and effectively represented.
Chair the Hotel’s Responsible Business Committee and coordinate Hotel’s employee relations activities.
Responsible for the Hotel’s employee communications programs through developing (monthly) employee newsletter.
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years prior Hotel Human Resources Management experience required.
Minimum of three years Labor Relations, Union Contract Negotiations, Mediation, Grievance Resolution and Arbitration experience required.
Familiarity with hotel operations; knowledge of governmental laws and regulations regarding human resources
Three to five years facilitating training sessions
Creative, out-of-the-box experience developing and facilitating training courses
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent presentation skills with the ability effectively communicate and engage an audience at all levels
Demonstrated ability to effectively counsel employee and managers when dealing with concerns, complaints and/or policy interpretation.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are essential.
Competence in completing related duties and all other tasks assigned by management
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all employees, guests and hotel information
Ability to focus on employees' needs, remaining calm and courteous
Ability to think clearly, quickly and make concise decisions
Ability to prioritize, organize and follow-up
Ability to work well under pressure and focus attention on details
Must be able to maintain a highly positive and friendly image that will reflect well on hotel's overall appearance.

The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $105,000 . This is the lowest to highest pay scale we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
