Nexstar Media Group NewsNation - Director (Part-Time) in Chicago, Illinois

DIRECTOR (Part Time) NewsNation is a national news cable network currently reaching 75 million television households across the country. The network is owned and operated by Nexstar Media Group (NXST).NewsNation is currently searching for a Part- Time Director for our national newscasts, based in our Chicago studios.

This opportunity is for someone that doesn't mind rolling up their sleeves and do something few have done before – launch a 24-hour news network.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director will lead the control room and studio staff during all broadcasts.

  • The Director will interact with the newscast producer to understand the content, tone, structure and pace of the newscast.

  • Supervise on-air talent, technicians, stage crew, floors directors.

  • Responsible for directing a fast-paced and highly produced broadcast using Ross Overdrive and Ross XPression control room automation systems.

  • The Director will help design and implement use of new multi-area sets and contribute to the overall ‘look’ of the broadcast.

  • Coordinates with the News and Creative Services Departments to achieve the graphic elements of the newscast and should add creativity and ideas that enhance the final product.

    Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience Directing in a professional live broadcast television network.

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of studio/remote broadcasting technology in

  • Hands-on control room automation experience required, Ross Overdrive preferred.

  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment, be able to multitask. A problem solver and quick thinker to resolve existing issues and to find work arounds.

  • Must be self-sufficient and have a “press-on-regardless” attitude.

  • All day parts (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be a part of the schedule with overtime as situations demand.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field preferred.
