The Logan laboratory in the Division of Infectious Diseases of the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Public Health Program, Asc, Sr. to join their team. The majority of the efforts will be dedicated to serving as research coordinator for a large NIH funded research study focused on identifying community reservoirs of multi-drug resistant Enterobacterales, as infections with these organisms have continued to increase and are affecting children, healthy populations, animals, and the environment.

While this is a remote position, this position is based in Chicago, IL and surrounding areas. Residence in the Greater Chicago area or neighboring areas with ability to commute to Chicago to coordinate and implement research activities and engage research participants is strongly preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently uses a specialized knowledge of, and experience, with public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote solutions to public health issues/problems.

  • Collects and analyzes data.

  • Prepares proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.

  • Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.

  • Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.

  • May coordinate clinical study sites to ensure compliance with patient recruitment and data collection standards.

  • May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, websites, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.

  • May design, develop, and conduct targeted training initiatives.

  • May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.

  • Identifies new potential projects, studies or partners.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS

  • The team member is expected to perform the following specific activities:

  • Independently uses a specialized knowledge of, and experience, with public health principles to analyze, develop, implement the study.

  • Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the research study.

  • Coordinates and conducts meetings.

  • Works with project manager, lab manager, postdoctoral fellow and other study staff in the implementation of project aims, data management, and coordinates field and laboratory research and intervention activities with the team.

  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, kits, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.

  • Leads in the distribution of surveys, ensures compliance, and leads in the recruitment and retention of households, farms and waterways users for a prospective cohort study.

  • Addresses research participants and study partners by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.

  • Assists in the coordination of and provides direction to research collaborators to ensure effective implementation of study aims.

  • Assists in the coordination of collections of environmental samples from waterways and farms and the implementation of study protocols.

  • Assists in the design, development, and conduct of research protocols and in assessing the effectiveness of research study design.

  • Provides leadership in determining, recommending, and implementing improvements to processes.

  • Prepares proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts and presentation of study findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in Public Health, a master of science degree in Public Health or Health Education, or a master's degree in Development Practice and three years of relevant applied public health experience OR a master's degree in another field and four years of public health experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s degree, DNP, MD, or PhD is preferred.

  • Exceptional organizational and written/oral communication skills and attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, remain flexible and manage time effectively are desired.

  • Experience with data management and survey databases are preferred.

  • Flexibility on infrequent travel to Atlanta for in person meetings is desired.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
