Naval Facilities Engineering Command ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in China Lake, California

Summary You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will evaluate an environmental protection program using metrics, fact finding, and investigative techniques. You will administer and coordinate site Environmental Protection Programs. You will initiate and perform studies to determine the extent that Navy operations may impact the quality of' the environment. You will recommend and implement corrective actions. You will respond to oil and hazardous substance spills and provide guidance on the containment and cleanup of minor spills. You will conduct review of contractors performing routine permit sampling, investigations or construction on environmental projects. You will determine and implement the most feasible corrective measures for routine environmental deficiencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS:09- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Reviewing technical data on environmental activities and to develop recommendations for a course of action; 2) Evaluating work practices to determine compliance with environmental protection laws and regulations; and 3) Recommending changes to control or eliminate potential or existing environmental hazards or violations. GS:07- Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Work Environment: Majority of the work is in an office setting; however, significant time will be spent in the field. During field investigations, there may be exposure to hazardous substances.
