Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the EMS Lead Medic the EMS Specialist serves the community by responding to emergency and non-emergency situations, natural and man-made, that pose a threat to the lives of the citizens within the CFD response district and it's mutual aid partners. The EMS Specialist protects life by performing emergency medical care, public education duties, maintaining EMS equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
The EMS Specialist will perform according to the State of New Mexico and City of Clovis Fire Department Scope of Practice as approved by Medical Direction. This position works under a 7 day FLSA cycle and is generally scheduled (2) 20-hour shifts per cycle. This posting may be used to fill Full Time, Part-Time, and Casual positions.
This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances; marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Typical Duties
- Performs emergency medical services to the standards and expectations of the City of Clovis Fire Department.
- Performs basic and advanced medical rescue procedures to access, stabilize and transport a patient to an appropriate medical facility.
- Provides pre-hospital emergency medical care effectively and safely in all types of emergent conditions.
- Duties include but are not limited to emergent and non-emergent treatment and transport of patients as assigned by the supervisor.
- Completes appropriate patient treatment documentation as well as any other reports required by department policy.
- Maintains and prepares vehicles and medical equipment in a manner allowing for emergency and non-emergency response.
- Obtain and maintainCEVOcertification and operate assigned vehicles in a safe manner with due regard to the public.
- Responsible for patient advocacy, interagency teamwork, and fluid verbal/written communication with other personnel.
- All duties must be performed with maturity and professionalism.
- Attends meetings, seminars and other training to stay current in position and required skill competencies for the position.
- Develop a basic understanding of the Incident Management System and take command of an incident, if first on scene, until relieved.
- Develop detailed knowledge of city streets, highways and county responses.
- Conduct behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the Fire.
- Department and the City of Clovis.
- Utilize appropriate protective equipment furnished by the department for personal safety.
- Perform other department activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Vacancy posting will run for a three week period with first review of applicants at the end of the business day week two of positing.
- EMS Specialist Intermediate will be hired within the salary range with a base pay of $16.11 to $21.91 dependent upon experience.
- Scheduled shifts will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. two shifts per 7 day cycle.
