Description
Under general supervision of the Electric Engineering and Design Superintendent, the Engineer I / II conducts engineering design and construction studies for electrical substation, transmission, and/or distribution projects. Develop long range distribution and transmission buildout and loading plans. Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality to ensure capital projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the functional requirements of the City of College Station. Work with technicians to provide service to new customers, maintain service to existing customers, and ensure the timely expansion of the electrical system to provide service to future customers. Seal design drawings for the electric utility.
Principal Duties
Provide project management for a variety of large capital improvement projects, including facilitating meetings with the A/E consulting firms, City departments, and construction contractors; reviewing design submittals; working with a land agent to acquire ROW and easements; developing project schedules; and monitoring budgets.
Conduct engineering research, prepare engineering reports, make computations, and make time and material estimates. Develop and maintain material specifications and College Station Utility’s (CSU) spec book and Guide Book.
Perform ERCOT and NERC required system studies (e.g., ALDR, FERC 715, dynamic stability studies) using PSSE and Aspen software to meet compliance requirements.
Perform/manage distribution system studies such as, Arc Flash; system expansion; fuse coordination; distribution feeder loading and switching; and transformer sizing.
Investigate outage reports to determine system improvements to address overloaded or inadequate facilities, wildlife protection, vegetation management, or aged infrastructure to reduce future customer outages.
Provide leadership and mentoring to coworkers and/or interns.
Seal design drawings for the electric utility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Engineer I
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering and four (4) to six (6) years of engineering experience or educational equivalent
Texas Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within six (6) months of date of hire
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering design software
Valid Texas Driver License
Engineer II
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering and six (6) to eight (8) years of engineering experience or educational equivalent
Texas Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within six (6) months of date of hire
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering design software
Valid Texas Driver License
Preferred: PMP certification through the Project Management Institute
Knowledge of industry standard software, such as ASPEN OneLiner, PSSE, or Milsoft WindMil
Experience as a project engineer in consulting engineering
Public speaking experience
