Catholic Health Initiatives Speech Language Pathologist Assistant in College Station, Texas

Overview

The speech-language pathologist assistant (SLPA) delivers quality therapy services to patients by implementing in accordance with the established treatment plan and goals to maximize functional outcomes. The SLPA provides care at the direction of the supervising Speech Language Pathologist and actively participates in discharge planning. The SLPA is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice following the guidelines of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology. Services are delivered within the framework of an interdisciplinary team approach, including the patient and significant others. These services are delivered in compliance with CommonSpirit Health's mission, ethical standards, and policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Administers appropriate treatments to patients at the direction of the supervising Speech Language Pathologist, demonstrates knowledge and skill in the use of therapeutic exercise, activities, and equipment for the habilitation and rehabilitation of cognitive, linguistic, pragmatic and dysphagia conditions.

  • Instructs and supervises rehabilitation technicians and student affiliates in a respectful, courteous and consistent manner.

  • Maintains timely and accurate medical records; records legibly in patient charts; completes reports in an organized, thorough and timely manner.

  • Fosters communication with patients and families, other therapists, physicians, nurses, volunteers, and other hospital personnel to achieve goals and establish department support; attends and provides quality input during multidisciplinary rounds and departmental meetings.

  • Provides patient and family education; includes information on outside resources to meet the patient's specific needs.

  • Engages in departmental and/or hospital performance improvement plans; understands and participates in quality and patient safety initiatives.

  • Attends department and hospital inservices; actively engages in continuing education and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree from a Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program or Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or other related field.

  • Licensed by the State of Texas- Assistant in Speech-Language Pathology/Intern in Speech-Language Pathology; eligibility to begin clinical fellowship period

  • American Heart Association CPR/BLS Certified

Pay Range

$25.81 - $37.43 /hour
