Core Immigration Legal Team Internship
Department: Immigration Legal Services (Core)
Location: Dallas, TX (In-person)
Reports to: Enrique Polavieja
Commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per week (Monday – Friday, between 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM)
Compensation: Unpaid (Academic credit may be available)

Program Overview
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides immigration legal services to refugees, asylees, and other immigrant populations, assisting them with adjustment of status, naturalization, family reunification, and other immigration benefits. Our Core Immigration Legal Services team is committed to providing high-quality legal representation and support to help clients navigate the immigration process.
Internship Overview
The Core Immigration Legal Team Intern will support attorneys, DOJ-accredited representatives, and legal assistants in assisting clients with immigration applications. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in immigration law and nonprofit legal work, offering hands-on experience with client services, administrative tasks, and case management.
Responsibilities
Legal and Client Support
Assist clients in preparing immigration applications, such as adjustment of status and naturalization, under attorney or DOJ-accredited supervision.
Help gather required supporting documents for cases.
Conduct follow-ups with clients regarding case status and missing documents.
Observe legal consultations and take notes for case documentation.
Administrative and Office Support
Answer phone calls and emails regarding case inquiries and appointment scheduling.
Maintain accurate client files and assist with data entry.
Process and organize correspondence from USCIS.
Provide interpretation and translation support as needed (Spanish or other languages preferred).
Assist with planning and supporting legal workshops.
Additional Information
This is an unpaid internship, but academic credit may be available depending on university policies. Interested applicants should check with their school’s Internship Coordinator before accepting the offer to determine if the position meets academic credit requirements.
This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain experience in immigration law and nonprofit legal work. Interns will collaborate with legal professionals and gain insight into the refugee and immigration process.

Qualifications
Requirements
Interest in immigration law, refugee rights, or nonprofit legal services.
Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week at the Dallas office.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable with online systems.
Ability to work effectively in a team and take initiative.
Preferred but not required: Fluency in Spanish or another language spoken by IRC clients.
