Actalent Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Dallas, Texas

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our full-cycle engineering Product Development department at our US headquarters. You will be responsible for mechanical design tasks related to refrigeration and heating product appliances using SolidWorks, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards such as UL, CSA, TUV, and EPA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the product line, including design features, process capabilities, and cost structure.

  • Manage projects using the New Product Development Process, defining tasks, schedules, and responsibilities.

  • Complete project design work by applying product knowledge and refrigeration engineering fundamentals.

  • Develop testing scenarios and collaborate with the test lab to ensure designs meet product specifications.

  • Participate in project design reviews and pilot implementations to support production.

  • Implement design corrections based on feedback from design reviews and pilot run activities.

  • Take initiative to gather information and complete detailed tasks to meet project deadlines.

  • Develop solutions to refrigeration design challenges that meet customer requirements and can be produced efficiently.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of EPA codes and regulations for refrigeration systems.

  • Collaborate with safety agencies (UL, CSA, TUV, etc.) to maintain required certifications for global market sales.

  • Develop clear product and process specifications to ensure high-quality systems that perform their intended functions.

  • Ensure designs are simple to fabricate and easy to assemble, working with manufacturing engineering to implement necessary process improvements.

  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently and work at a high intensity level to meet aggressive project deadlines.

  • Support field service efforts, including training, troubleshooting, and installation.

  • Coordinate vending testing as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Firm grasp of basic engineering fundamentals.

  • At least five years of mechanical design experience with a BS Engineering degree, or at least 10 years of mechanical design experience without a BS degree.

  • Proficiency in sheet metal design (thin gauge).

  • Proficiency in modeling with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software (Inventor, Solid Edge, Fusion 360).

  • Experience with manufacturability of sheet metal designs.

  • Experience working under UL design standards for sheet metal (e.g., UL 508A for electrical enclosures, UL 969 for labels, and/or UL 1332 for organic coatings).

  • Basic electrical wiring knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with refrigeration appliance design or heated appliance design is strongly preferred.

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Refrigeration Engineering preferred but not required.

Work Environment

The position is based in an office environment and operates Monday through Friday. You will be part of an engineering team consisting of 7-8 members, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, embedded systems engineers, and designer/drafters. The role reports directly to the VP of Engineering. The team has a good culture, with opportunities for growth even without a four-year degree. We design, test, and manufacture heating, cooling, and refrigeration products for the food and beverage industry.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $46.00/hr.
