Community Blood Center Microbiology Laboratory Intern in Dayton, Ohio

Because we believe that everyone deserves more time to live life to its fullest. Microbiology Laboratory Intern: Vitek quality control and maintenance. Verifies Vitek temperature is acceptable. Vitek maintenance (wash inoculation stands and card holders). Performs the following basic duties in the microbiology lab: Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB Log in specimens (electronically and manually) Sets up samples on Vitek 2 Compact Pull discard tubes Sub positive cultures and incubates them properly Subculture stock QC organisms Daily temperatures Log in new media, reagents and supplies Performs weekly eye wash/shower maintenance Performs weekly hood QC Incubator and refrigerator quarterly PM Troubleshoots the temperature monitoring system Weekly cleaning of irradiation/rinsate room 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins File paperwork Clean lab spaces Organize and restock lab supplies MicroCheck tube discard Perform follow ups with branches as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Currently enrolled at an accredited university, preferably one of the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Laboratory experience is helpful. Work Environment and Physical Activities: Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be organized and willing to work a flexible schedule as needed. Must be service oriented, self-motivated, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Desired Qualifications: Computer literacy and working knowledge of programs currently in use at the company. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to complete daily workload.
