Job Description

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating various CNC machines, including band saws, laser cutters, plasma cutters, and waterjet machines, to produce high-quality steel components. Your day will begin with a morning safety meeting, followed by reviewing shift notes and job priorities. You will set up tooling, form parts, and ensure that all jobs are completed accurately and on time. Collaboration with team members and maintaining a safe and clean work environment are essential aspects of this role.

Pay

• $24-$30 based on experience

Shift

• 4x10 Afternoon shift - 3:15PM-1:45PM

Responsibilities

• Attend morning safety meetings

• Review shift notes, emails, and job priorities

• Examine drawings and address any issues with stretch outs

• Set up tooling and operate CNC machines

• Form and finish parts according to job specifications

• Sign off on drawings and mark jobs complete on job board

• Operate CNC band saws, laser cutters, plasma cutters, or waterjet machines to cut steel materials

• Read and interpret shop drawings, technical documents, and safety procedures

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment

• Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines

• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment

• Ensure quality control of cuts and finished products

Essential Skills

• 1-3 years of CNC machine operation experience

• Experience operating CNC band saws in a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in laser, plasma, or water cutting of steel

• Strong ability to read and interpret technical documentation

• Experience with calipers, shop drawing, blueprint reading, and steel fabrication

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating a CNC machine brake press, including 235-ton Accurpress with vision control software and 400-ton Mitsubishi Diamond Elite

• Understanding of steel fabrication techniques, steel grades, and shapes

• Ability to calculate stretch outs and select proper dies

• Proficiency in working with both imperial and metric measurements

• Ability to use Vernier Calipers with tight tolerances

• Basic computer skills for using the in-house job board

• Clear written and spoken English communication

• Ability to stand for long hours and perform tasks involving bending

• Ability to lift over 50 lbs

Work Environment

The shop is clean and organized, with a steady pace. Day shifts have about 30 people in the shop, while night shifts have 15 people. Employees report to their shift supervisor or machine operator supervisor. The location is in Delta, Tilbury Park.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
