Here is what you can expect as a Director, Corporate Counsel at DaVita: Reporting to the Director, Assistant General Counsel of the Privacy Team, the Director, Corporate Counsel will be the lead privacy attorney supporting DaVita's artificial intelligence (AI) business and enterprise AI use. The attorney will support the day-to-day activities of our AI business teams, by providing legal review, guidance and partnership on a range of projects and initiatives. This role will also play a vital part in supporting the Privacy Legal Lane function within the DaVita Privacy Office. The Privacy Legal Lane is responsible for providing legal privacy guidance to all areas of the DaVita business; ensuring company privacy compliance; tracking, monitoring and implementation of all new privacy regulations; and providing support on various other Privacy Office and company initiatives.
Responsibilities: Act as the main privacy support attorney for DaVita's AI business and enterprise AI use Provide thorough legal analysis and guidance to business teams on the development and deployment of artificial intelligence ("AI") technologies used in DaVita's clinical and business operations, as well as long term business goals and initiatives Active tracking, monitoring and analysis of existing and proposed AI and privacy legislation Act as a strategic thought partner with business leadership to understand business goals, and help achieve those business needs in a privacy compliant manner Assist and collaborate with other DaVita attorneys, compliance teammates, and business leaders in identifying and resolving legal matters arising from internal AI development and use Provide privacy review, guidance and negotiation on contracts and business associate agreements Act as a key contributor on Privacy Office Legal Lane initiatives and projects Program and process improvement Assist in leading Privacy Legal Lane projects Work closely with other Privacy attorneys to provide and coordinate legal guidance needed to operationalize important initiatives and requirements Travel required: Minimal (approximately 5%)
Experience & Education: Juris Doctorate and 6 yearsof relevant legal experience At least one state bar admission and in good standing, with the ability to waive into Colorado, if needed. 3+ years of experience in privacy is required Knowledge of IT development processes and an understanding of AI technologies A CIPP or CIPM certification is preferable Experience in health care is desired Experience in healthcare relating to compliance with state and federal privacy laws, e.g. HIPAA, HITECH, state breach notification laws, etc. is a plus Experience neg tiating and drafting technology contracts, data agreements, and other healthcare-related legal documents. Ability to manage multiple matters and priorities at one time in a fast-paced environment. High degree of maturity and professionalism and the ability to work in a collaborative, team environment. Critical thinking and decision making skills, with the ability to quickly determine issues that need escalation Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with an ability to listen attentively and communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization. Experience with health care provider operations preferred.
