Summary:

Under the limited supervision of the Director of Facilities, Safety, and Security, performs routine security work in protecting judicial branch property and maintaining the security of the Iowa Judicial Branch Building. This position may also provide physical security to the chief justice, justices, court of appeals judges, and employees of state court administration during travel and events.

Pay Grade 23, $21.42/hour - $33.41/hour depending on experience, 30-40 hours per week.

Position eligible for full-time State of Iowa insurance benefits.

Responsibilities:

Ensures security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and premises of the Iowa Judicial Branch Building.

Performs regular inspections of Iowa Judicial Branch building and monitors entrances to the building to ensure compliance with security procedures and protocols.

Ensures that all doors and gates are locked and that only authorized vehicles and persons are admitted to assigned areas of building during business hours. Clears building visitors at the end of each day and secures all exit doors.

Ensures operation of surveillance equipment and monitors daily surveillance for disruptions or unlawful activity.

Prevents passage of prohibited articles into the building. Receives and inspects incoming mail and distributes to appropriate departments, as needed.

Assists and directs visitors; furnishes information in a courteous manner; directs traffic and enforces vehicle regulations.

Investigates complaints, accidents, and/or violations of security related policies and procedures; completes reports by recording observations, information, and occurrences.

Assists in building evacuations and other safety precautions (e.g. tornado warnings, disaster drills, etc.).

Drives and escorts employees and judicial officers during travel, as needed.

Assists with light maintenance in and around grounds of the Iowa Judicial Branch Building.

Coordinates with and provides assistance and liaison services to law enforcement agencies, vendors, and contractors as directed or required.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must be a graduate of a law enforcement academy and have a minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable security policies and protocols.

Ability to operate surveillance equipment.

Knowledge of and familiarity with problems which arise in safeguarding buildings and grounds, and the procedures used in dealing with them.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to maintain simple records.

Displays high standards of ethical conduct; exhibits honesty and integrity.

Ability to work and communicate with internal and external customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.

Committed to quality service; aligns behavior with the needs, priorities and goals of the Judicial Branch.

Works under minimal supervision and displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments effectively and efficiently.
