This position will assist the Heavy Equipment Mechanics by performing diagnosis of mechanical defects of heavy equipment; assist mechanics with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment; conduct hydraulic repairs, electrical problem solving, and assist in major body work and modifications; serve and maintain light and heavy equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for Heavy Equipment Service attendant, applicants must meet all the following:
Knowledge of heavy equipment service and repair procedures and techniques sufficient to repair minor equipment failures and assist mechanic in major overhauls.
Ability to use heavy equipment machine and hand tools to diagnose minor equipment repair problems.
Knowledge of basic math.
Computer experience sufficient to work in specific DOT databases (scheduling systems.)
A valid class D driver’s license.
Possession of a valid Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement and no air brake restrictions within 6 months of hire.
In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following if interviewed:
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions to act upon directions from a maintenance supervisor, foreman, or mechanic.
Preferred Qualifications
Class A driver’s license.
Graduation of a two-year vocational/technical Heavy Equipment Mechanic Training program.
Possession of four current certifications (functionally distinct) in heavy truck mechanics administered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent professional mechanic certification program.

The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines.
